Glaucoma

Glaucoma is known as a high eye pressure disease. High eye pressure causes optic nerve damage  and as a result of this damage vision loss occurs. The reason of high eye pressure is linked to inoperative discharge system of intraocular fluid .  The intraocular fluid is located between cornea and the lens of the eye and this fluid is leaks out of the eye naturally . When this fluid can not be discharge from the eye as it should be , it causes high eye pressure.

There are two common types of glaucoma . One of them is open angle glaucoma and  the other is closed angle glaucoma. Some factors are increasing the risk of having glaucoma which could include diabetes, genetics, advance  myopia, advance hyperopia, cortisone treatments, eye injuries.

What are the symptoms of glaucoma? 

Early diagnosis is playing an important role in the treatment of  glaucoma. Usually you may not notice the disease in the early stage so to determine the disease early , you are advised to have regular eye exams.

Most common symptoms of glaucoma may include:

• Vision loss gradually
• Eye pain
• Headache
• Blurry vision
• Red eye
• Seeing halos looking at the lights

What are the treatment options for glaucoma?

There are different treatment options of glaucoma such as surgical treatment (laser treatment) ,medication treatment, eyedrops treatment. According to the level of the glaucoma treatment differs for each patient.

How is glaucoma laser surgery performed? 

Glaucoma laser surgery is same day surgery procedure . The goal of the surgery is to discharge  the intraocular  fluid from the eye.

Life after the surgery 

You can be discharged from the hospital at the same day. You will have a couple of  control examinations in the following weeks to check to eye pressure level
