What is cataract?

Cataract is a medical condition which is clouding of lenses located behind the pupil. Naturally, we are seeing through these transparent lenses and when cataract develops the vision loss occurs gradually. Cataract is usually known as a a elderly disease however it may occur from the birth or it may occur after a trauma or as a result of diabetes.

What are the symptoms of cataract?

How is cataract surgery performed? 

Cataract surgery is the one and only effective treatment of cataract.The surgery is performed under local anesthesia and it requires a a few days to completely start daily activities.

The most common method of cataract surgery is known as Phacoemulsification Surgery.  With this method the operation is performed through tiny incisions. During surgery the clouded lenses removed and artificial lenses (intraocular lens)implemented).

Life after the surgery

After the surgery, you can discharge from the hospital at the same day. You may feel light  discomfort and light pain for a few days. Usually cataract surgery is performed for a single eye in a single session.  If you require surgery for  both eyes, you are advised to have surgery for the second eye at least one week after the first surgery.
